We Belong: Youth Leadership and Community Cultures of Care is an initiative by the Connecticut Historical Society that encourages Asian American and Black students to connect with one another, their guardians, and their community for a better understanding of self and place. This program offers paid opportunities for students between the ages of 15-20 and reside within 30 miles of Hartford. Upon completion of the program, students are paid a stipend of $800.

This program is not limited to young people who have a familiarity with racial issues and advocacy work. The Youth Program allows students to connect one-on-one and in small cohorts with Black and Asian American community leaders and storytellers. Students will have the opportunity to learn skills like oral history, digital storytelling, advocacy, and community-building and apply them. A community gathering at the end of the program will celebrate student work.

The program will take place on Sundays at the Connecticut Historical Society and other spaces around the Greater Hartford area.

Time Commitment: 49 hours total. Approximately 2 hours in person and 90 minutes remote each session, which will run from April 30 through August 27. (You will enter information about possible needs or services you may require to complete the program on the application.)
