This exhibition, designed and produced by the Connecticut Dance Alliance, brought to life the valuable contribution of dance to the cultural vitality of Connecticut. The exhibition represented a thematically and historically organized portrait of Connecticut’s significant dance heritage of a wide variety of dance forms, important historical dance events, the work of individual dancers, choreographers and companies, and the impact of schools and teachers on the field of dance.
This exhibition was the culmination of an unprecedented crowd-sourcing initiative “All About Dance in Connecticut” that documents the many facets of the history of dance in Connecticut through an online gallery of over two thousand images submitted by members of the Connecticut dance community over the past two years. You can see the gallery at https://www.flickr.com/groups/[email protected].
After its debut at the CHS, Connecticut Dances – A Visual History will travel to the Handel Performing Arts Center at the Hartt School, University of Hartford, the Playhouse on Park, followed by a tour to venues around the state. Tour listing as it develops can be found at www.ctdanceall.com.
The exhibition was made possible through the generous funding from The Connecticut Humanities, the Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation, The Greater Hartford Arts Council, NewAlliance Foundation and contributors to Connecticut Dance Alliance.
