(Re)Using Hartford’s Historic Buildings

Oct 16, 2014 - Apr 26, 2015

Developed with help and consultation from Connecticut’s Old State House, this satellite exhibit explores the perceived value and practice of historic preservation in Hartford with an emphasis on how urban renewal projects affected Hartford’s historic buildings and the preservation movement. Reproduction photographs and illustrations from the CHS collection appear on five moveable pop-up exhibit panels; images include historic buildings that were demolished during the 1950s-1980s and historic buildings that remain standing today and may have been adapted to new uses. Visitors are encouraged to consider the value of historic preservation and to learn about what people in the past have done to save some of Hartford’s buildings.from the wrecking ball.

Come visit this exhibit at Connecticut’s Old State House until March 14, 2015.
