The Sole of Connecticut

Mar 8, 2016 - Jun 25, 2016

This exhibit will be developed by Public History graduate students at Central Connecticut State University. Shoes on view from the CHS collection will provide a focal point to tell stories of Connecticut residents throughout history. An exhibit preview will be on display in the CHS’s main hallway exhibit cases from March 8 – April 30, 2016.

The full exhibit opens in October and will feature more than 30 pairs of shoes, including moccasins, boots, clogs, ice skates, and flip-flops, as well as sport and snowshoes ranging from the early republic to the contemporary. Journey through the exhibit to see how form, function, fashion, and feet meet. And discover the shoe molds, advertisements, cobbler ledgers, pictures, and footgear that have gripped and continue to be at the sole of Connecticut.
