Juried exhibit features works from the Handweavers’ Guild of CT

Hartford, CT (April 2013) Time Warps: Textiles from Today’s Weavers, a juried exhibit of hand-woven goods showcasing the work of contemporary weavers using both historical and modern techniques and designs, is on view from April 20 through May 16, 2013, at the Connecticut Historical Society (CHS).

Time Warps is a biennial show, organized by the Handweavers’ Guild of Connecticut (HGC), that features articles of clothing (scarves, shawls, jackets), decorative pieces (wall hangings), and household items (table runners, rugs, towels, blankets), produced by guild members. HGC, founded in 1948, is composed of hand weavers, spinners and other fiber artists of all levels of experience who are dedicated to exchanging ideas and knowledge as well as furthering the education, preservation, and promotion of fiber art techniques.

In conjunction with the exhibit, on Saturday, May 4, there will be a free Demo Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to showcase the talents and skills of the artists to the public. Demo Day gives visitors of all ages the opportunity for a hands-on experience to experience the steps that transform raw fiber into thread and ultimately into cloth. This behind-the-scenes look at the industry will allow the public a chance to ask weavers questions about their projects, their passion for the art and weaving in general.
