Discovering Beatrice Fox Auerbach: A Presentation by Laura Crow, UConn Professor of Costume Design

April 7, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Laura Crow, Professor of Costume Design, UConn, will give a presentation focusing on the life of Beatrice Fox Auerbach and the development of the exhibition. Beatrice Fox Auerbach (1887-1968) is one of the most famous women in Connecticut history. Mention her or the G. Fox & Co. department store to anyone over 40 years old who grew up in Connecticut, and you’re bound to hear a personal story or recollection. Come learn more about Auerbach and her legacy.

This winter the CMCH is hosting the traveling exhibition Beatrice Fox Auerbach: The Woman, Her World & Her Wardrobe organized by the University of Connecticut Historical Costume and Textile Collection. This exhibition includes more than 100 garments, shoes, and personal accessories from her childhood to maturity, ranging from the 1890s to the 1960s. The exhibition is generously sponsored by the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation Fund of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

$5 CMCH Members, $10 non-members, wine and cheese reception included.  Reservations are requested. Please indicate the program name and date and call (860) 236-5621 x238 or email [email protected].

Questions? Please contact Adult Programs Manager Jenny Steadman at (860) 236-5621 x289.
