We invite CMCH members and special guests to join us for the opening reception of Mas: Costumes from Hartford’s West Indian Community. The exhibit will showcase Trinidad-style carnival costumes (Mas) made by Hartford teens during the summer 2016 Mas Camp, the sixth year of a collaboration of the Connecticut Cultural Heritage Arts Program (CHAP) and the Connecticut International Cultural Carnival Association (CICCA) under the direction of Linford “Junior” Miller. The colorful and elaborate costumes on display are similar to those worn in West Indian Carnival celebrations around the world, and will be presented by the teens at Hartford’s Taste of the Caribbean Festival and the West Indian Parade this summer.
At the opening reception, enjoy an outdoor concert by the Hartford Steel Symphony, Caribbean cuisine, and a performance by the Mas Camp participants. In the event of rain, the opening reception and concert will be postponed to Friday, August 19. Please check our website, chs.org, or call (860) 236-5621 for information concerning weather-related postponement.
RSVP by Monday, August 15 by phone (860) 236-5621 x 238 or by email [email protected].
