About Our Speakers

Allison Horrocks and Mary Mahoney became friends while pursuing Ph.D.s in history at the University of Connecticut. Ms. Horrocks is a Park Ranger at Lowell National Historic Park in Massachusetts. Ms. Mahoney is Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Digital Humanities at Trinity College. They co-host a podcast, American Girls, a review of the American Girls book series created in the 1980s, which both hosts credit for sparking their love of history. The podcast mixes serious historical critique of the books with analyses of popular culture. It has been positively reviewed by The New York Times, Paris Review, and the A.V. Club.
