Short Attention Span Literary Club

April 3, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

If you have been wanting to join a book club, but worried about the time commitment, this group is for you! We’ll meet every couple of months and discuss short stories that have a connection to our exhibits.

For our April meeting, we will be discussing Ann Petry’s “The New Mirror.” Petry was a Connecticut author; this semi-autobiographical story examines the difficulties of being African-American in 1930s New England.

Afterward, we’ll take a walk through our newest exhibition, Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow, and see how Petry’s writing connects to the larger story of the black struggle for equal rights.

“The New Mirror” can be found in Petry’s published collection of stories, Miss Muriel and Other Stories. Check your local bookseller or library. The Research Center at CMCH owns a non-circulating copy as well.

Free for CMCH members, $8 for non-members.

This is a drop-in program, but we welcome RSVPs to help us better serve our visitors. Please email [email protected] or call 860-236-5621 ext. 238. Questions? Contact Natalie Belanger, Adult Programs Manager, at [email protected].
